Balabolka is a Text-To-Speech (TTS) software which allows the user to convert text to speech. Balabolka lets you convert the text file to audio format like WAV, MP3, MP4, OGG or WMA. It can also read clipboard content and view text from documents saved as AZW, AZW3, CHM, DjVu, DOC, EPUB, FB2, HTML, LIT, MOBI, ODT, PRC, PDF and RTF files. This will automatically detect any TTS sounds that you have installed on your computer and, of course, you can download more sounds, both free and paid, from the internet.

It’s a good idea to take your time to check all Balabolka options. This is very useful for file management, even allowing you to share and convert documents. It also has a timer, so you can set it to read before going to sleep, for example, and can be fully controlled by the shortcut key. This program uses various versions of Microsoft Speech API (SAPI) that allows to change sound parameters, including rate and tone. Users can apply special substitution lists to improve the quality of sound articulation. This feature will be useful when you want to change the spelling of words. The rules for pronunciation correction use the regular expression syntax.

The speech quality that produced is varies greatly, but you can have a big influence by choosing carefully read voices and changing settings so that you deal with pauses, speeds, and unusual words in the most efficient way. Even though Balabolka isn’t perfect, it’s very good, and in many cases as good, if not better, than similar paid applications.

During testing Balabolka does not freeze, crash or error dialogs pop up. It leaves a small footprint on system, small resource that needed just using CPU and low RAM. Considering a generous set of features and configuration parameters, Balabolka must meet the requirements of most users who are looking for reliable and multi-talented text-to-speech software applications.
